Biography

Karri York, soprano, obtained her Doctor of Music in Voice from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  She currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana where she teaches voice, piano and harp to students in the surrounding areas.  She has been guest vocal masterclass clinician for Indiana Wesleyan University, Southport High School, and Whiteland High School.  She is currently Director of Music at Southport United Methodist Church.  She formerly held the position Assistant Professor of Voice in the School of Music at Ball State University, and served as Adjunct Voice Instructor at Butler University Jordan College of Fine Arts. 

Dr. York’s performance experiences include recitals, oratorio, opera, and musical theatre.  She has been guest vocal soloist with Butler Symphony Orchestra, Muncie Symphony Orchestra and Masterworks Chorale, and has performed many solo and chamber recitals both locally and nationally.  She has been soprano soloist for Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor and Mozart’s Requiem.  Her favorite operatic roles, which she has performed, include Susanna in Mozarts’ Le Nozze di Figaro, Laurie Moss in Copland’s The Tenderland, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and Nerone in Handel’s Aggripina.  Dr. York regularly adjudicates for both collegiate and high school competitions.  She is also a professional recording artist for such publishers as Hal Leonard, Hope, Lorenz, and Soundforth, and has recorded background vocals for the independent film “The War Within” by  Rob Deas and Van Lawson.  In addition to the voice, Dr. York has provided harp music for special occasions in such venues as Columbia Club, Scottish Rite Cathedral, Mallow Run Winery, wedding ceremonies and funerals.
